091009: It is hard to believe our little guy turned one already. Although it was quite the whirlwind, it was definitely the most incredible year of our lives getting to know Lincoln. From the second he was born, he was such a sweetheart. He came out grasping for his daddy’s finger; and I will never forget the moment that I first held him and he had that “Are you my Mommy?” look on his little face. We often said that Lincoln’s first breath took ours away. I had never before felt so blessed. It has truly been an honor to share so many incredible memories, and to learn over the last year from such a beautiful little boy.
We had so much fun celebrating Lincoln’s first birthday with all of our family and friends. We “had a ball” with Lincoln in our backyard with a party including balls of all shapes and sizes. He loved the ball pit and played by himself for almost an hour, fascinated that there were so many balls in one place…and he could play with them all! It got even better when his friends started to arrive and he found out that he could throw all of the balls too! Much to Lincoln’s delight he got some more really cool balls from his buddies Garrett and Owen. He got so many great gifts – clothes, books and toys that it would be impossible for me to write about them all. Some of the highlights included an adorable wooden rocking horse from his Grandma and Grandpa Eichers, a busy ball popper from Grandma and Grandpa Murray and a sweet home-made story book from his Grandma GG illustrating the Adventures of Lincoln.
My favorite part of the day was when Lincoln ate his birthday cake. Grandma Alleman put on Lincoln’s party hat; we stripped him down to his diaper and he was ready. Aunt Colbie and Grandma Shirley made him an adorable giant polka-dot cupcake decorated with little gum balls. At first he was very delicate, slightly preoccupied by the grass tickling his feet, as he one finger at a time started tasting the frosting. As the sugar rush started to set in, he quickly realized that he had five fingers...and was soon grabbing the good stuff by the handfuls. He was nice enough to share his cake with his girlfriend Mia too! Our cute friend Megan was so sweet to capture all of the magic with lots of pictures. After the cake we brought out Lincoln’s little tub and gave him a bath with his party hat still on :) It was so cute…he was still licking cake off his fingers and enjoying all of the attention.
We appreciated everyone who helped make the day so incredible. Thanks to the balls and ball pit, the trampoline, and all of the yummy food – it was a lot of fun. It was such a special day for such a special boy, spending time with everyone we love. It has been an incredible journey over the last year and we are so thankful for everyone who has shared this time with us. Lincoln is so lucky to have so many people that love him so much.
